How does therapy work?
In counseling and psychotherapy, you and I will work as a team.  As you talk about your concerns, I'll listen carefully and ask you questions to help you clarify your thoughts and feelings.  I'll treat you in a respectful, nonjudgmental and caring way and help you to feel safe and comfortable.  I'm an active and engaged therapist, and will offer you direction, guidance and input.  As we talk things through, you'll understand yourself better and new ideas, perspectives and solutions will begin to emerge.   My expertise in problem solving, coping strategies, communication skills, personal growth, relationship improvement and emotional healing can help you change old patterns of behavior and begin to solve problems with lasting solutions, create more satisfying relationships, and live a more balanced and joyful life.

How will I know if therapy is helping?
People really look forward to their therapy sessions.  As you gain clarity and understanding about yourself and your situation through counseling or psychotherapy, you will have the tools and support to uncover what is authentic, vulnerable, joyful and loving within you.  From a place of self knowledge and confidence, you can begin to make positive, lasting changes to move past unwanted symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, anger and fear.   You can more easily adjust to difficult changes in your life, such as separation and divorce.  You can start to recover from alcohol and other addictions and codependency.  You can improve your marriage and other relationships, and become a better parent.  You can be more successful at work.  And you can bring more joy and satisfaction into your life.

Will therapy address my specific needs?

As a collaborative process, your counseling or psychotherapy with me is unique.  If you need to work through experiences from the past that continue to interfere in your life, then my expertise will help nurture you and guide you.  If your issues are more present focused and require problem solving and skill building, therapy will be practical and solution oriented. In either case, together we'll focus on helping you to accomplish your goals and create greater happiness and success in your life.
